Elaine offers consultations and therapy online. She utilises online video/audio therapy, telehealth and digital technology to provide support to adults (18+) living in the UK, USA or elsewhere. All therapy sessions, and between-session interactions, are conducted in English. It is therefore important that those who connect with Elaine are comfortable conversing in English.
In her practice, Elaine offers her professional expertise to a person/s who is,
∞ living with a terminal illness
∞ navigating their end-of-life journey
∞ coping with the challenges of pre-bereavement prior to losing someone they love
∞ grieving the loss of a loved one or loved ones
∞ dealing with the impact of an unusual experience associated with end of life such as terminal lucidity, an end-of-life vision or after-death communication
∞ experiencing fears around death and dying, at any age, irrespective of one’s physical health
∞ wanting an open and honest conversation around mortality, dying and death.
Why therapy online?
Online therapy is support that ‘comes to you’, enabling you to engage with Elaine in the safety, privacy and comfort of your own home, or private space, online. It also offers effective ways of extending her therapeutic capabilities, and providing ongoing support, between sessions. Elaine provides therapy through a relaxed online journey that is easy to work with and provides opportunities for choice.
Whilst in-person support may be a more familiar concept, it is not always feasible or readily available. Online therapy offers easy access to professional therapy for the emotionally vulnerable, ill, those who are shielding, or for those for whom mobility is challenging. It also provides easier access for those who travel, individuals who have time pressures or family pressures, and people who are navigating a busy schedule. Elaine’s services are available to you without the restriction of location-based challenges and other demands on you and your time. You simply need online connectivity, safety and privacy in order to spend time with Elaine.
Online therapy facilitates confidential and easy in-home therapy or in-place therapy for those who choose to engage from a different safe space. The choice is yours to make.
At the beginning I felt so weighed down by my loss and my sadness that I did not have the energy, or the inclination, to leave home. I wanted help, I knew I needed help, but the last thing I wanted to do was get respectably dressed, drive my car, find a parking and go to an appointment. The thought was exhausting. I chose therapy online and now I would not change it… I travel with my work and my therapy continues uninterrupted (Bereaved Widow, 42).
About individual online therapy sessions
In providing therapy online, Elaine uses her awareness and understanding of how important the overall experience is to her clients as her compass. She ensures clarity in her explanation of the process, guidance in its usage, safety in the protocols and minimisation of uncertainty. Options include online video or audio only sessions of either 50 minutes or 70 minutes in duration. Therapy-between-therapy exercises form part of the intervention process, as does optional digital support for the immediate and longer term. Although Elaine’s therapeutic work is conducted online, her primary aim is to reach those who seek her support. Please do not hesitate to contact Elaine to discuss your personal needs or queries around online therapy, should you so wish.
Your confidential sessions with Elaine begin with an initial session in which your challenges and concerns are explored, the context is established, the focus of therapy going forward is discussed and the duration and regularity of sessions is considered. When making initial contact with Elaine, it would be helpful if you highlight your reasons for seeking care and support. To arrange a consultation with Elaine please click here to contact her.
Online therapy is an effective, direct and accessible option to in-person models, and Zoom has now become the standard video platform for psychotherapists. Elaine’s sessions are held via Zoom and, on booking, you will receive an access link to your session on the date, and at the time, you have chosen, together with a password. At the appointed time you will need to click on your link, enter your password and Elaine will then open the session. It is no more complicated than that. Elaine will also be available via a mobile/cellular device at that time should you experience technical difficulties and need assistance to connect. Between sessions, you will be further supported through exercises, self-care plans and recommendations Elaine will suggest to you.
Therapy
Elaine has developed her own, unique therapeutic approach to the challenges associated with the end-of-life process, grief, loss, bereavement and the fear of death. Her holistic framework integrates mind, body and the transpersonal, and embraces the wholeness and uniqueness of the individual’s feelings and emotions, thoughts and perceptions, actions and behaviours, physiological challenges and function, and spiritual and religious beliefs. Her approach is reassuring, supportive, caring and effective, and is one that will put you at ease.
When working together, Elaine helps each person to move towards well-being and acceptance. She addresses each individual’s psychological needs, physiological difficulties and ongoing adaptation, supporting them through their experience and facilitating preparation for the days to come. The development of self-compassion, emotional resilience, courage, meaning making and calm is facilitated, easing psychological suffering and improving quality of life.
The range of therapies Elaine employs are known to lessen symptomatic intensity and promote healing when introduced through virtual intervention. She adopts an integrative and eclectic approach to therapy by adapting and combining elements from a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques including, amongst others, grief and loss therapy, compassion-based therapy, life review and dignity therapy, meaning-centred therapy, transpersonal-centred psychotherapy, positive psychology, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), appropriate cognitive-behavioural therapies, energy psychology, mindfulness, guided visualisation, progressive relaxation, hypnotherapy and polyvagal practices.
