The pre-death visions, conversations and transformative experiences of the dying have been passed down from generation to generation for eons. Scientific investigation into these experiences, however, commenced less than a century ago. In 1926, the first recorded case of a transformative end-of-life experience, illustrative of visions and non-ordinary insights, was published in Dublin, Ireland, by Sir William Barrett.
